Owen Francis Dudley (1882-1952) was a Catholic priest who wrote detective fiction (amongst other things) that has often been compared to Chesterton’s Father Brown stories. His Masterful Monk features in several novels, of which this was the 1st (published in 1929). It was also the 3rd volume in his Problems of Human Happiness project.
