Near fine, 1st edition, missing d/j, original blue cloth, titles to spine gilt on blue ground, pictorial design to upper board gilt, blue top-stain. Spine a little rolled and faded, faint spotting to endpapers. An excellent copy. Inscribed by the author to the poet Cecil Day-Lewis (father of actor Daniel) on ffep "To Cecil Day Lewis with all good wishes from Eric Linklater".
