François Villon (c. 1431 – c. 1463) is the best known French poet of the Late Middle Ages. He was involved in criminal behavior and had multiple encounters with law enforcement authorities. Villon wrote about some of these experiences in his poems. A limited edition (5000 on ordinary paper) of parallel French and English translations (chosen by André Deutsch and Mervyn Savill) made by a variety of writers (incl. Dante Gabriel Rossetti, John Heron Lepper, William Stirling, Lewis Wharton, Algernon Charles Swinburne, DeVere Stacpoole, Richard Aldington, and John Payne).
