When an attempt is made on his life, Pete Fletcher consults a Private Inquiry agent. But John Earlstone seems to play with his client like a cat with a mouse. A second attempt is made, and is forestalled by direct action on Fletcher’s part. After a third attempt, when he is saved by the invervention of the police, Fletcher takes more direct action, which cuts across Earlstone’s lines of enquiry.
