Long regarded as the best and most comprehensive introduction to the life and words of Benjamin Britten, it was out of print for many years. This 2nd edition was updated posthumously (after Britten’s death in 1976) to include penetrating studies of the last two operas, Owen Wingrave (1970) and Death in Venice (1973).
